Pioneer Days to Modern Ways

Watsonville, CA – Drum roll please! The Santa Cruz County Fair is excited to announce the winner of the Fair Theme Contest and the theme! Kyle Middleton beat out more than 85 submissions with the theme, “Pioneer Days to Modern Ways.”

“We have it all! Our pioneer past at the Ag History Project as well as a look to the future with new techniques and technologies - celebrating the Past, Present and Future,” says Middleton.

As the winner of the contest, Middleton gets tickets to the Fair and a parking pass. But, because she is one of our dedicated Fair Department Heads, she has chosen to donate her prize package to the Boys and Girls Club of Scotts Valley.

The 2024 Fair will indeed showcase the best of Pioneer Days and Modern Ways. For the first time ever, the Fair will feature a Drone Show! 200 drones will take to the sky above the fairgrounds each night in a stunning and artistic display of technology.

The Fair will also host all the annual favorites… the Tractor Parade, Junior Livestock Auction, Monster Trucks and Motocross, a Horse Show, Charras and much more! There will also be live concerts, including a Taylor Swift Tribute.

For all our local bakers, makers, florists, farmers, quilters, poets, artists and LEGO lovers… please look for the Fair Entry Guide, online and in stores, May 1st.

The Fair runs September 11th-15th, 2004.  See you there!

We’re Full STEAM Ahead

Watsonville, CA – TODAY ONLY, the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds is pleased to host the return of the 2024 Santa Cruz County STEAM Expo.

Last year, the Expo had to be canceled as the fairgrounds were called into service as an emergency Red Cross shelter for victims of the catastrophic Pajaro Valley flooding. The silver lining for the Expo is that organizers and students have now had two years to put together the biggest and best STEAM Expo yet!

The Expo, put on by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, is happening throughout three buildings on the fairgrounds. It’s a traditional Science Fair competition along with demos, exhibits, performances and hands-on activities. Oh yes… and apple flinging!!

Also, there’s a Food Truck on the grounds to feed hungry young scientists, engineers, artists and the public.

The Expo is FREE and open to all!

When:  Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 10:30am – 3:00pm

Where: Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, 2601 E. Lake Ave, Watsonville, CA 95076
